Love To Uncle Bob

We are sad this week due to the passing of my dad's baby brother, Bobby Gale Ashlock. Uncle Bob was a man who worked hard, loved his family and stayed true to his roots. I looked up to him my whole life even though I never could really understand why he always wore a dirty old straw hat. I got my first horse (two horses actually) from Uncle Bob and Aunt June and they are still here on the farm. I was honored that they trusted me to take good care of them and I've tried my best.

I remember Uncle Bob teasing my brother, calling him 'bear' which for some reason made my brother want to cry. Of course, Uncle Bob was more inclined to do it because of that and I was amazed that he could drink smokin' hot coffee in August, although now I have learned to do the same....Another thing I remember about Uncle Bob was his old brown Ford truck. It was so cool. I recall when he broke his leg and kept his foot propped up on the chair with a big cast on. I was fascinated by that as a child and the family reunions weren't the same if he wasn't there.

I believe that when Uncle Bob left our earth, he had peace in his heart and he was ready to go up to heaven where he is no longer in bad health and can enjoy all the farm animals he wants, from chickens to horses to goats and longhorn cattle.

I love you Uncle Bob and I am so proud you were my uncle for 43 years....you will always be in my heart.
