One of the coffee mugs I use a lot at the office is a yellow Life Is Good mug with a horse on the front. The horse is munching on a nice piece of straw while wearing the classic Life Is Good sunglasses. Of course, I love the horse on the mug. But I especially love the phrase on from Life Is Good on the back....it says "Do What You Like. Like What You Do."
I have pretty much conquered the first part of that phrase. I often do exactly what I like and if I don't like it, I don't do it. Of course, in choosing this path, I have also had to accept the fact that there are often consequences attached with this way of thinking. But, I'm okay with that. It's worth the price to be able to do what I like.
Liking what I do is another story. Most days I do like what I do. And if I don't, I try to psyche myself into thinking I do just so I can get through it. If a horse likes wearing sunglasses, why not? If a horse doesn't like sunglasses but needs to wear them to keep from running off the cliff while blinded by the light, I hope he at least liked what he was doing when it was the last thing he did....or else he learned to like the sunglasses occasionally to live a longer more productive life doing what he liked!
