Girlie Girl...I Miss You

I had one trick-or-treater this year, as usual. Keeley Jo Massey always comes by on Halloween. It's definitely a 'treat' for me....not only do I get a chance to see Keeley's latest costume, but I always love to chat with her mom Christy for a while.

This year, something was different, besides Keeley's costume and little Miss Massey pointed it out to me. Keeley looked around and made the comment, "I miss Girlie". I replied that I miss Girlie too....

So today is appropriate to honor Girlie Girl. We don't really know how old she was when she came to live with us but we had her for almost nine years. She slept in the chair a lot (or the bed if someone would help her get up there) the last few months but she was always the best companion anyone could ever hope for. Girlie was a small bundle of unconditional love. She was the kind of dog that surely caused someone to coin the phrase "I hope to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am". When she died last fall, I couldn't talk about it for several days without crying like a baby. Girlie was my steadfast companion when Fred was away at work. She and I went through a lot of stormy nights, snow-ins in winter and even a few scorching hot summer afternoons together, just the two of us.

....Girlie, I miss you....(sniffle, sniffle)....but I'm so glad you came into my life for the time I needed you most. I hope I was occasionally the kind of person who deserved such a great furry friend.....(sniffle, sniffle).....Keeley Jo remembers you too! :-)

Early this summer I lost my female yellow lab..she was only about a 1 1/2 but she, like ur girlie, was my companion and even confidant at times! When she died, I cried for almost 2 weeks straight...It's hard losing a family member...even if they do have 4 legs! Hope you have a wonderful week!
