Ever watched "Outlaw Josey Wales"? The Indian Chief Lone Watie says "endeavor to persevere" was what the government told the Indians about their new relationships with the White settlers. Since that's one of my favorite movies and one of the best quotes in the movie, the first "P" in opportunity will be for Persevere. I think of people with major illness when I think of this word, and of college students trying to work and raise a family at the same time, of my Daddy who went to work when he was sick with the flu and of the Bermuda grass that keeps creeping over into my flower beds. I think of me working day after day trying to make a difference for someone and of the honey bees Fred watches so carefully as they do the same thing over and over from daylight to dark.
The moral to all that is that sometimes opportunity requires us to persevere over lots of things and to not give up on our dreams. Sometimes the opportunity itself is the test of our ability to stick with something and even though what we are working toward isn't accomplished in the end, our skills and personalities are enhanced, thus leading us to another opportunity. It's an ongoing thing...persevere my friends. We never know where the next opportunity will be.
